Film: ¡COLORES! The Musical Adventures of John Donald Robb in New Mexico

7 pm The late John Donald Robb loved and composed all kinds of music, but his passion for the songs of everyday folk is what he is remembered for most. Roaming the countryside of the Southwest during the 40s and 50s, Robb recorded and transcribed over 3,000 Hispano folk songs, the largest collection of its time. This documentary celebrates the life of this adventurous musician and the modern day ethnomusicologists who continue to record and archive New Mexico’s disappearing folk music traditions. Música del Corazón: Sin Fronteras/Without Borders, Recovery and Celebration

7 pm—Pre-concert string instrument-making 7:30 pm—Concert On the wings of melody, rhythm, and poetry, ¡Música del Corazón! concerts, featuring new groups and different traditions each year, tell us as much about our past as about our future. There Must Be Other Names for the River

7 pm (doors open at 6 pm) 516 ARTS, the National Hispanic Cultural Center, and UNM Art & Ecology Program artists Marisa Demarco, Dylan McLaughlin, and Jessica Zeglin present There Must Be Other Names for the River. This composition for six singers is based on streamflow data from the river known today as the Rio Grande. Each singer channels the river, representing a point where flows were observed and recorded.
