Who We Are, Together: NM Families Project Presentation for Sanchez, Martinez, Tovar and Begley

2-4 pm This project engaged 2-3 generations of seven NM families in testing their DNA and researching their family lineage with the help of the NHCC and experts in the field. For seven Sundays these families will present what they learned about who they are, where they are, where they came from, and from whom they descend, followed by dialogue. New Mexico Philharmonic: Music from Within Our Midst

Composer Robert Alexander was appointed choirmaster at St. Salvator in Vienna in 1935 and served as organist at the Vienna Augustinian church. In 1939, he immigrated to New York, continuing his career. His grandson, Dr. Ron Bronitsky, lives in Albuquerque. Alexander’s striking Concerto Grosso for Strings, Op. 164 begins this program. 3 pm New Mexico Philharmonic presents Brass, Winds, & Bach’s Air. The NMPhil winds and brass step out to warm this midwinter afternoon! Dvořák’s Serenade for Winds, scored for two oboes, two clarinets, two bassoons, three French horns, cello, and double bass, is both lyrical and intensely beautiful. New Mexico Philharmonic: Glorious Vivaldi!

3 pm New Mexico Philharmonic presents Glorious Vivaldi! Enjoy three of the Italian Baroque concerto master’s finest—Vivaldi’s Concerto Grossi in d minor and g minor, along with the much-loved Concerto for Two Violins in a minor with star violinists Sarah Tasker and Gabriela Fogo. The second half of the program features Albuquerque’s own marvelous Coro Lux and the NMPhil—in Gloria, Vivaldi’s blissful sacred masterwork. Quintessence: 7th Annual Summer Choral Festival (Rental)

3 pm in the Albuquerque Journal Theatre, with a 2 pm pre-concert lecture in the Wells Fargo Auditorium Quintessence: Choral Artists of the Southwest present a concert of works from their 7th Annual Summer Choral Festival. Breathe, Barelas, Breathe: A Staged Reading of a Trilogy of One-Act Plays

7 pm Orpheum Arts Space 500 2nd St, SW, Albuquerque, NM 87102 This will be a staged reading of the entire trilogy (90 minutes). Arrive early to see a photo exhibit about Barelas. Followed by refreshments. This trilogy of one-act plays is written by Barelas resident playwrights Raúl Garza, Leonard Madrid and Mónica Sánchez, and inspired by the history, dreams and musings of one of Albuquerque’s oldest neighborhoods.
