5 pm to 7 pm Día de Muertos is an annual traditional holiday celebrated throughout Mexico and many Hispanic communities. Join the NHCC and experienced, knowledgeable local artists to learn about the meaning of this celebration, the traditional arts and crafts associated with the celebration and development of ofrendas that honor families and individuals. 10 am to 5 pm Each year the NHCC works with schools and community organizations to host an Ofrenda (altar) Installation, in celebration of Día de los Muertos. Participants’ submissions will be on display in the Domenici Education Building and the Roy E. Disney Center for Performing Arts at the NHCC. Dia de Los Muertos Art Show: “Lost Places”
5:30 pm to 7:30 pm Join us for a special Dia de los Muertos art show. New Mexico artists were invited to create 8” x 8” works of art with poetry or text that honor a place whose absence they mourn—whether a lost region of the Amazon, Chaco Canyon, or an abuela’s kitchen. Proceeds from sales of the works support the artists and NHCC History and Literary Arts programming. 7 pm Albuquerque master guitarist Gustavo Pimentel (“The Guitarist”) has been exposed to the finest exemplars of guitar music since childhood, beginning his studies in 1974 in the studios of Pimentel & Sons Guitarmakers.
