1st Annual National Hispanic Cultural Center History Festival

In 2020, we celebrate the 10 year anniversary of the completion of the famous buon fresco, Mundos de Mestizaje, created by Frederico Vigil in the National Hispanic Cultural Center Torreón. The first annual NHCC History Festival will take place Friday and Saturday, February 21-22, 2020, and we invite you to join us celebrating Hispanic and Latinx history with this year’s theme, “Mundos de Mestizaje.”All festival events will respond to and engage with the fresco, allowing us to explore Hispanic/Latinx history through the cross-cultural, transnational, and multidisciplinary influences (more…)

¡Baile! Casino (Cuban Salsa) Dance Class

6 pm to 8:15 pm 6 pm to 7:15 pm—Beginning and Intermediate Class. No experience is necessary to participate in this class. 7:15 pm to 8:15 pm—Advanced Class In order to participate in this class, dancers must come to at least one 6 pm class and be familiar with the vocabulary and movement introduced in these classes. Travel the Hispanic World this New Year’s Eve!

Noon – 2 pm Celebrate New Year’s Eve at the National Hispanic Cultural Center by touring 12 stations with interactive activities. Each station celebrates New Year’s Eve with a different tradition from a different country. In Brazil, eat seven raisins. In Mexico, pocket a handful of lentils. In Spain, eat 12 grapes and make 12 wishes. Tear up your 2019 calendars in Uruguay. In Colombia, create a little suitcase to celebrate adventures to come–and so much more! 7:30 pm The UNM Choirs and Orchestra present music of South and Central America. The UNMSO will present the mystical “itinerarios” by Silvestre Revueltas. The UNM Choirs and UNMSO will present “Cantata Criolla,” a setting by composer Antonio Estevez of the epic Venezuelan poem by Alberto Arvelo Torrealba. $12 w/ discounts for students and seniors
