Every year since his untimely death in 1993, the Recuerda a César Chávez Committee has commemorated the birth of this humble civil rights leader by marching in his honor and celebrating his life with music, dancing, poetry and enjoyable, culturally enriched activities for children. Dia de Los Muertos Art Show: “Lost Places”

New Mexico artists were invited to create 8” x 8” works of art with poetry or text that honor a place whose absence they mourn—whether a lost region of the Amazon, Chaco Canyon, or an abuela’s kitchen. First Page to Last Page Reading of Bless Me, Ultima in the NHCC Art Museum

9 am to 8 pm The National Hispanic Cultural Center will present a beginning-to-end reading of Rudolfo Anaya’s acclaimed novel, Bless Me, Ultima. The reading will take place in the NHCC Art Museum where an exhibition, La Ultima Exhibición, enters its final month. Over 40 dignitaries, New Mexico authors, youth, adults and elders (including school students) will read, each for 15 minutes, between 9 am and 8 pm. The general public is invited to attend any part of the day-long reading as well as tour the exhibition

5th Annual South American Folk Fair

2 pm The 5th Annual South American Folk Fair seeks to unite Albuquerque’s South American community in a day of cultural experience and connection through music, dance, and food. The festival will feature traditional food and folkloric dances from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Perú and Venezuela. Headlining the event will be Houston-based Pachangara, under the direction of Venezuelan percussionist Gerardo Araujo.
