5:30 pm The National Hispanic Cultural Center’s 2nd Annual Luminito Celebration offers an immersive cultural experience grounded in New Mexico’s lively luminaria vs. farolito debate. On December 14, enjoy music, biscochitos, a holiday mercado with local vendors, Matachines dance performances, holiday lights, and more as we celebrate the holiday season! This year’s celebration will begin shortly after a special performance of Héctor Armienta’s The Farolitos of Christmas, A new opera for families and children based on Rudolfo Anaya’s beloved children’s book, presented by NHCC partner Opera Southwest. 7:00 to 8:15 pm Plaza Mayor | National Hispanic Cultural Center Whether you call them ‘farolitos’ or ‘luminarias,’ come celebrate New Mexico’s distinctive holiday lights at the Center! On Dec. 12, join us for a holiday celebration illuminated by the world’s tallest ‘Luminito,’ a 20-foot-tall, steel-reinforced structure inspired by New Mexico’s traditional holiday lights.
