Composer Robert Alexander was appointed choirmaster at St. Salvator in Vienna in 1935 and served as organist at the Vienna Augustinian church. In 1939, he immigrated to New York, continuing his career. His grandson, Dr. Ron Bronitsky, lives in Albuquerque. Alexander’s striking Concerto Grosso for Strings, Op. 164 begins this program. 3 pm New Mexico Philharmonic presents Brass, Winds, & Bach’s Air. The NMPhil winds and brass step out to warm this midwinter afternoon! Dvořák’s Serenade for Winds, scored for two oboes, two clarinets, two bassoons, three French horns, cello, and double bass, is both lyrical and intensely beautiful. 3 pm New Mexico Philharmonic presents Glorious Vivaldi! Enjoy three of the Italian Baroque concerto master’s finest—Vivaldi’s Concerto Grossi in d minor and g minor, along with the much-loved Concerto for Two Violins in a minor with star violinists Sarah Tasker and Gabriela Fogo. Opera Southwest Presents New Year’s with the Opera!
