Aliento: Jesús Muñoz Flamenco, Red Note, School Day Event

10 am Casa Flamenca and the NHCC present a school day event for Jesús Muñoz Flamenco in Red Note–original music and works by a cast of international dancers and musicians that explores dynamic, visionary movements in dance, music, and visual art inspired by cante flamenco. Red Note will take you on a journey through southern Spain–where soul meets dance–and through the evolution of flamenco’s dance and music. This is a free event with registration. Día de los Muertos: Hands on Workshop

4 pm to 5:30 pm The National Hispanic Cultural Center will hold its annual Despedida to celebrate  Día de los Muertos with music, poetry and hands-on art making at this time-honored community gathering. This is a great event for all ages. Workshop – Mini Ofrendas & Sugar Skulls at 4 pm to 5:30 pm Tour the ofrendas around the NHCC campus; enjoy music, traditional chocolate mexicano, pan de muertos, and sharing of special and heartfelt memories. Día de los Muertos Exhibition – Call for Entries

10 am to 5 pm Each year the Education Department at the National Hispanic Cultural Center, works with schools and community organizations, to host an Ofrenda (altar) Exhibit, in celebration of Día de los Muertos. 5 pm to 8 pm Join the UNM Latin American & Iberian Institute and the National Hispanic Cultural Center for a free professional development workshop for K-12 educators focused on Día de los Muertos.  Led by artist and educator Arturo Olivas, participants will learn the history behind papel picado, shrines, and sugar skulls, before delving into hands-on instruction in all three elements. Certificates of professional development, refreshments, and supplies will be provided to participants.
