    Each year in March the National Hispanic Cultural Center celebrates women with programming that honors their contributions to dance, music, theatre, art, poetry, films, novels, and much more. Listed below are all the events that you can experience at the Center during Women’s History Month. Below are our offerings for 2017.   • ¡HAH! Happy Arte Hour with Artist Rachel Muldez

    5:30 pm to 7:30 pm On the first Thursday of the month, the National Hispanic Cultural Center invites adults for artistic fun. Snacks and refreshments, as well as beer and wine are for sale from Pop Fizz to fuel your creative juices.   • First Friday: Docent Education and Conversation

    9:30 am - 12 pm On the first Friday of each month, NHCC docents and core volunteers meet for coffee and conversation along with monthly presentations on topics that build the knowledge and skills of the docent core to give tours, educate the NHCC visitors and share the NHCC mission and programs.   • ¡Vamos al Museo! With Artist Rachel Muldez

    10:30 am to 12:00 pm On the first Saturday morning of every month, join us for this fun and engaging artist-led family program. During the March event, families (limited to 25 participants) will get a 30-minute museum tour focused on the NHCC Art Museum’s current exhibit Fantasía Fantástica: Imaginative Spaces and Other-Worldly Collage led by artist Rachel Muldez, whose work you will see in the exhibit. Following the tour, the whole family can create their own artwork with Rachel's help in the Pete V.   • Book Reading and Signing: “Coyota in the Kitchen” by Anita Rodriguez

    History and Literary Arts Building

    2 pm to 4 pm Anita Rodriguez is a New Mexican artist and writer.  Her father’s side goes back ten generations in her beloved Taos valley, and her mother is a painter who came to Taos from Austin, Texas.  Anita’s training as an artist began in childhood from her mother and extended to her formal training at the Colorado College.   • ¡Salud y Sabor!: Colombia

    5:30 pm to 7:30 pm Salud y Sabor, a partnership between the Agri-cultura Network, Street Food Institute, and the NHCC, is a free evening of food, art, and entertainment aimed at providing families with an opportunity to connect around nutrition, cooking, healthy lifestyles, and culture. Once a month, community members gather for cooking demonstrations using fresh, locally grown ingredients, as well as fun art activities for kids and adults, health screenings, and live entertainment.   • La Canoa Legacy Talks: A. Gabriel Meléndez, Humor and Healing: Cantinflas’ (Mario Moreno) Classic Screen Moments

Gabriel Meléndez, recently appointed director of UNM’s Center for Regional Studies, as he takes us on a fun and insightful journey through the life of Mexican actor Mario Moreno and his beloved character “Cantinflas.” Moreno starred in scores of films from the 1930s through the 1980s, and is also known for his Golden Globe-winning role as the ingenious valet Passepartout in Around the World in 80 Days.
