  • Salud y Sabor: Día de los Muertos: Mexico

    5:30 pm -- 7:30 pm Salud y Sabor, a partnership between the Agri-cultura Network, Street Food Institute, and the NHCC, is a free evening of food, art, and entertainment aimed at providing families with an opportunity to connect around nutrition, cooking, healthy lifestyles, and culture. Once a month, community members gather for cooking demonstrations using fresh, locally grown ingredients, as well as fun art activities for kids and adults, health screenings, and live entertainment.   • Making Art: Día de los Muertos Workshop

    10 am to 11:30 am School groups attend a 90-minute session which includes a short lecture on the history of the celebration, a hands-on art station, and a guided tour of our student created ofrenda (altar) installations.   • Spanish Cooking Class: Fall Recipes

    6 pm to 8 pm The purpose of Instituto Cervantes’ Spanish Cooking Classes is to learn to cook typical dishes from Spain. Join us in preparing these tasty and delicious recipes to surprise your family and friends.   • Fantasía Fantástica: Studio Tour with Nick Abdalla

    11 am & 1 pm Join the NHCC Visual Arts and Education team for a glimpse into Nick Abdalla’s art studio. Walking into his art space is almost like entering a larger-than-life version of one of his sculptures as twisting shapes and materials sprawl across the floor and wall space. Abdalla is a former professor of art studio at the University of New Mexico and his work is featured in the NHCC Art Museum exhibition, "Fantasía Fantástica: Imaginative Spaces and Other-Worldy Collage".     4 pm to 5:30 pm The National Hispanic Cultural Center will hold its annual Despedida to celebrate  Día de los Muertos with music, poetry and hands-on art making at this time-honored community gathering. This is a great event for all ages.   • ¡Vamos al Museo!: Día de los Muertos: Sugar Skulls & Mini Ofrendas

    10:30 am to 12:30 pm The National Hispanic Cultural Center is pleased to offer children’s programming on the first Saturday morning of every month. This is a fun and engaging docent and artist-led family program.  Families (limited to 25 participants) get a 30-minute museum tour focused on an art form, source inspiration, artist or type of material.  Following the tour, the whole family can create their own artwork in the Pete V.   • ¡Órale! Lowrider: Custom Made in New Mexico

    2 pm to 4 pm Join author Don Usner, and collaborators Kate Ware and Daniel Kosharek, for a presentation and book signing of ¡Órale! Lowrider: Custom Made in New Mexico, a beautiful photography book that pays homage to an enduring but evolving, cultural tradition with a fascinating compilation of four decades of lowriding, including photographs by New Mexico's most renowned documentarians with cultural studies of lowriders in their communities.   • Unveiling of Rudolfo Anaya Bust

    6 pm Join the National Hispanic Cultural Center for an unveiling and dedication of Reynaldo “Sonny” Rivera’s sculptural bust of Rudolfo Anaya in the Center’s History and Literary Arts Library from 6 to 7 pm, in advance of the Center’s presentation of Mr. Anaya’s work The Season of La Llorona in the Roy E.
