  • ¡HAH! Happy Arte Hour 2020

    Domenici Education Building – Grand Hall

    6- 8 pm (new time!) This year, in the spirit of the NHCC’s 20th Anniversary, we have invited back some of the artists that have contributed to the success of Happy Arte Hour over the years. Many of these artists were part of past exhibitions or have pieces of art in our permanent collection.   • La Canoa – Past, Present, and Future: Mujeres Valerosas and the Hispanic Women’s Council

    2 pm - 4 pm The Hispanic Women’s Council (HWC) was formed in Albuquerque in 1988 to “promote, support, and create opportunities for Hispanic Women.” Local women came together to help each other  advance in their professions, increase the number of women participating in policy-making, and serve as role models for other women.   • Mundos de Mestizaje

    12 pm to 5 pm A Vision of History through Fresco… Mundos de Mestizaje by Frederico Vigil is a mural housed in the Torreón on the campus of the National Hispanic Cultural Center. This monumental fresco depicts thousands of years of Hispanic history highlighting diverse cultural connections between people and places from the Iberian Peninsula to the Americas. The 4,000 square foot painting is one of the largest frescos in North America. The digitized imagery of the painting ensures that this culturally significant work can be a (more...)

No experience is necessary to participate in this class. 7:15 pm to 8:15 pm—Advanced Class In order to participate in this class, dancers must come to at least one 6 pm class and be familiar with the vocabulary and movement introduced in these classes.   • Margaret Randall: Book Reading and Signing

    2 pm Salon Ortega In Voices from the Center of the World (Wings Press, 2020), Randall has selected and translated 25 poets born in Ecuador between 1926 and 1993. These include some cultural heroes of the 20th century and many of the voices that define political dissent in Ecuador. The collection also focuses on a new generations of poets, especially women and indigenous poets born after 1950. Margaret Randall is a feminist poet, writer, photographer and social activist.     In 2020, we celebrate the 10 year anniversary of the completion of the famous buon fresco, Mundos de Mestizaje, created by Frederico Vigil in the National Hispanic Cultural Center Torreón. The first annual NHCC History Festival will take place Friday and Saturday, February 21-22, 2020, and we invite you to join us celebrating Hispanic and Latinx history with this year's theme, "Mundos de Mestizaje."All festival events will respond to and engage with the fresco, allowing us to explore Hispanic/Latinx history through the cross-cultural, transnational, and multidisciplinary influences (more...)
