    9:30 am – 12 pm Join our monthly gathering for colcheras of all skill levels led by Annette Gutierrez Turk. If you are beginning or advanced in the traditional New Mexican style of embroidery, bring your current colcha project along and enjoy these monthly, informal, community work sessions to share ideas, resources and encouragement! No experience is necessary to participate in this class. 7:15 pm to 8:15 pm—Advanced Class In order to participate in this class, dancers must come to at least one 6 pm class and be familiar with the vocabulary and movement introduced in these classes.     2 pm - 4 pm In celebration of the 2020 Women’s Vote Centennial, please join Dr. Anna Nogar as she explores the many facets of Nina Otero Warren. Early 20th century nuevomexicana Adelina “Nina” Otero-Warren ran for national office as a Republican candidate to Congress from New Mexico in 1922, shortly after women gained the right to vote. An advocate of suffrage, Otero-Warren achieved political prominence for her promotion of Spanish/English education, and involvement in educational and health efforts supporting Indo-Hispano nuevomexicanos.     12 pm to 5 pm A Vision of History through Fresco… Mundos de Mestizaje by Frederico Vigil is a mural housed in the Torreón on the campus of the National Hispanic Cultural Center. This monumental fresco depicts thousands of years of Hispanic history highlighting diverse cultural connections between people and places from the Iberian Peninsula to the Americas. The 4,000 square foot painting is one of the largest frescos in North America. The digitized imagery of the painting ensures that this culturally significant work can be a (more...)
