  • Mexican Independence Day Celebration in partnership with the Mexican Consul

    5:30 – 7:30 pm In collaboration with the Consulate of Mexico, the National Hispanic Cultural Center is proud to host a celebration of Mexican Independence Day featuring vendors, dancing, and much more!  On Sept. 12, the Center will be joined by the Consulate of Mexico providing a formal flag unveiling and the traditional Grito, a celebration announcement of independence. Diwali is one of India's biggest Hindu festivals, celebrated with great enthusiasm and happiness. The festival lasts five continuous days, and the third day is celebrated as the main Diwali festival or ‘Festival of Lights.'     6:00 pm Our December 5th Happy Arte Hour will feature Artist Carol C. Sanchez and Gelli Plate/Monotype Printmaking. Gelli Plate/Monotype is a basic printmaking process in which an image is created by rolling or painting with ink or paints directly onto a plate and printed onto paper. We will be using gelli plates, which have many possibilities and can be used with a variety of media such as ink pads, watercolor and acrylic paints.     7:00 to 8:15 pm Plaza Mayor | National Hispanic Cultural Center Whether you call them ‘farolitos’ or ‘luminarias,’ come celebrate New Mexico’s distinctive holiday lights at the Center! On Dec. 12, join us for a holiday celebration illuminated by the world’s tallest ‘Luminito,’ a 20-foot-tall, steel-reinforced structure inspired by New Mexico’s traditional holiday lights.
