    Due to personal reasons and circumstances beyond the NHCC’s, Avokado Artists’ and the artist's control, the Ceci Bastida show originally scheduled for March 5th at the National Hispanic Cultural Center has been rescheduled for Saturday, June 25, 2016.   • Chispa: Orchestra of New Spain, Iphigenia en Tracia, A Zarzuela

    3 pm Iphigenia en Tracia, based on Euripedes’ Iphigenia in Tauris, was written in 1747 by José de Nebra, known as the leading late-Baroque composer of Spanish opera and zarzuela, with libretto by Nicolás González Martínez. Nebra’s ultimate, highly dramatic zarzuela is a tragicomic version of the legendary story, set near the ancient city of Troy and presented with all the panoply, splendor, dance, and humor it would have enjoyed when it opened in Madrid's newly rebuilt Corral de la Cruz.     7:30 pm Born in Tijuana, Baja California to parents who were both pianists, acoustic folk-pop singer/songwriter Vanessa Zamora became interested in the performing arts as a child. She began piano lessons at the age of eight, and continued a year later with guitar and drums. While a student at the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara, she began uploading videos covering favorite songs by various artists on YouTube and social networking sites.   • 23rd Annual César Chávez Day

    10:30 am - Marcha 12 pm – Fiesta Join the 23rd annual César Chávez Day celebration, with a march beginning at 10:30 am and ending at noon at the National Hispanic Cultural Center’s Plaza Mayor.  Following the march, the family fiesta at the Center includes poetry, dancing, community awards and exhibits, children’s activities, food, a keynote speech by Carlos Marentes, and live music by Las Cafeteras.
