The Barelas Coffee House and the National Hispanic Cultural Center present the second annual Remember the Time Allstar Friends Dance and Concert. Get ready to enjoy music from the ‘50s, ‘60s, ‘70s, and ‘80s performed by some of Albuquerque's favorite entertainers. We'll have you dancing, singing, and reminiscing through the entire show! Festival Chispa Presents: Gaby Moreno & Las Cafeteras

Disney Center for Performing Arts: Albuquerque Journal Theatre 1701 4th St SW, Albuquerque, NM8 pm Festival Chispa, a celebration of New Latin music in partnership with Avokado Artists, presents Latin Grammy award-winning singer-songwriter Gaby Moreno and the incredible L.A.-based Latin alternative band Las Cafeteras. Born and raised in Guatemala, singer/songwriter Gaby Moreno was captivated in her youth by the sounds of the blues, soul, and jazz, and now calls Los Angeles home. On Point Dance Studio Presents 2017 Summer Fiesta (Rental)

Domingos en Arte: Los Texmaniacs & Mariachi Flor de Toloache

Los TexManiacs incorporates elements from genres including rock & roll and jazz, while still honoring the roots of Tejano conjunto; their album Borders y Bailes won the 2010 Grammy Award for Tejano Album of the Year. During June, July, and the first Saturday in August, families will be able to come to the Center on Saturday mornings for hands-on art activities, bilingual sing-alongs, outdoor activities in the Bosque and to explore the science of cooking on a rotating basis. La Pasión de Mariachi: Salute to Mariachi History and Excellence
Roy E. Disney Center for Performing Arts: Albuquerque Journal Theatre 1701 4th St SW, Albuquerque, NM6 pm (doors open at 5:30 pm) La Pasión de Mariachi is a celebration of the art form of mariachi. The purpose is to create greater awareness, understanding, and appreciation of traditional and authentic mariachi music by providing insights into the music, band member make-up, and instruments. Mariachi groups, like orchestras, are typically comprised of 18 to 20 members; many of the instruments, such as the guitarrón, are unique to this form of music. Performances will demonstrate various styles within the genre, including son, huapango, and ranchera. (more...)
Domingos en Arte: TradiSón
Patio | Fountain Courtyard 1701 4th Street SW, Albuquerque, NM, United States7:30 pm (doors open at 6:30 pm) A special mid-week performance in the series features TradiSón, the house band at La Bodeguita del Medio restaurant in Havana, famous for a storied clientele including Ernest Hemingway and Pablo Neruda. The band, as its name suggests, specializes in the son, a musical form that combines Afro-Cuban rhythms and Spanish melody, while performing other lively Cuban musical genres such as guaracha, guajira, and bolero. AMP Concerts Presents John Gorka (Rental)

Disney Center for Performing Arts: Albuquerque Journal Theatre 1701 4th St SW, Albuquerque, NM7:30 pm A singer/songwriter famed for his stunningly soulful baritone, John Gorka is one of the leading lights of the new folk movement. In 1987, Gorka cut his debut album, I Know, for the Red House label, winning acclaim for his songs’ subtle wit and acute observations. In the 1990s, he released several albums on the Windham Hill label. Since returning to Red House in 1998, Gorka has released several well-regarded albums, including The Company You Keep and So Dark You See, as well as Red Horse. (more...)
Domingos en Arte: Los Hacheros
7:30 pm (doors open at 6:30 pm) Brooklyn’s Los Hacheros are modern-day torchbearers of the Golden Age of Latin music, reviving folkloric styles like son montuno, guaracha, and salsa, and often combining them with bomba, a fiery rhythm from the mountains of Puerto Rico. Their debut album Pilón was acclaimed for “…its solid arrangements and lively original songs have impressed old-school salseros and young music fans alike.” Their sophomore album, Bambulaye, was recorded live to vintage analog tape, giving it a raw, warm sound similar to that (more...)
