  • Globalquerque Mini-Fest for Albuquerque School Kids

    10 am We'd like to let you in on a little secret. Each year, ¡Globalquerque! kicks off with a free concert for our local school kids. This mini-fest features two of our regular performers doing short sets as a way to introduce the kids to some cool different cultures. This year the participating bands are LADAMA (Brazil/Colombia/Venezuela/US) and Youssra El Hawry (Egypt). For other free family-focused ¡Globalquerque! action, check out the free Global Fiesta HERE. They will be available at the gate starting at 4 pm. Grounds open at 4 pm for performances that will start at 6:20 pm and run until at least 11:40 pm  ¡Globalquerque!, New Mexico’s 14th Annual World Music & Culture Celebration returns to the National Hispanic Cultural Center on September 21 and 22, 2018.   • Ballet Folklórico de Mexico de Amalia Hernández

    7:30 pm Ballet Folklórico de México was formed in 1952 by the dancer and choreographer Amalia Hernández. For six decades it has presented dances that reflect the traditional culture of Mexico, including indigenous Mesoamerica. The ensemble performs three times weekly at the Palace of Fine Arts in Mexico City. Additionally, it has toured widely and has appeared in over 80 countries, including a private performance at the White House for President and Mrs. Kennedy and command performances at the feet of the Sphinx in Egypt, bringing the (more...)

    7 pm Albuquerque master guitarist Gustavo Pimentel (“The Guitarist”) has been exposed to the finest exemplars of guitar music since childhood, beginning his studies in 1974 in the studios of Pimentel & Sons Guitarmakers. He graduated in 1995 from Mexico City’s prestigious Estudio de Arte Guitarrístico. Internationally recognized as a classical guitarist, he has performed in Spain and Germany as well as Mexico City.
