    5 pm - 7 pm Free Community Event The National Hispanic Cultural Center will hold its annual Despedida (Farewell) to celebrate Día de los Muertos with music, poetry, and hands-on art at this time-honored community gathering. This is a great event for all ages. Tour the ofrendas around the NHCC campus and enjoy music, poetry, traditional hot chocolate mexicano, pan de muerto, and the sharing of heartfelt memories. We are lucky enough to receive plenty of book donations, and we have some treasures. If you are a history or literature buff, you'll be especially pleased.   • Salud y Sabor celebrates Mexico and Día de los Muertos

    11:30 am - 2 pm Free Family Fun Salud y Sabor, a partnership between the Agri-cultura Network, Street Food Institute, and the NHCC is a free event with food, art, and entertainment aimed at providing families with an opportunity to connect around nutrition, cooking, healthy lifestyles, and culture. Once a month, community members gather for cooking demonstrations using fresh, locally grown ingredients, as well as fun art activities for kids and adults, health screenings, and live entertainment.   • Mundos de Mestizaje

    12 pm to 5 pm A Vision of History through Fresco… Mundos de Mestizaje by Frederico Vigil is a mural housed in the Torreón on the campus of the National Hispanic Cultural Center. This monumental fresco depicts thousands of years of Hispanic history highlighting diverse cultural connections between people and places from the Iberian Peninsula to the Americas.   • Who We Are, Together: NM Families Project Presentation for Martinez and Tafoya

    History and Literary Arts Building

    2-4 pm This project engaged 2-3 generations of seven NM families in testing their DNA and researching their family lineage with the help of the NHCC and experts in the field. For seven Sundays these families will present what they learned about who they are, where they are, where they came from, and from whom they descend, followed by dialogue. No experience is necessary to participate in this class. 7:15 pm to 8:15 pm—Advanced Class In order to participate in this class, dancers must come to at least one 6 pm class and be familiar with the vocabulary and movement introduced in these classes.     6 pm Vincent Valdez, a visual artist based in Houston, Texas, received his B.F.A. at The Rhode Island School of Design in Providence in 2000.
