  • Call for Involvement: Our Truth Project

    The National Hispanic Cultural Center is taking on a project, supported by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, with the goal of giving value and meaning to the lived stories of our New Mexico community; bringing heightened awareness of racial divides and inequalities; and helping navigate ways to heal and move forward together through art. Our overarching plan is to facilitate community dialogues and then commission artists to share these stories through devised works, presented in meaningful and discussion-inducing ways.   • Peruvian Cooking Class: Ceviche!

    6 pm If you are wondering how to prepare Peruvian food, come join us and learn from our Peruvian chef as Instituto Cervantes Albuquerque, in partnership with the National Hispanic Cultural Center and Pop Fizz, hosts a Peruvian cooking class.   • Opening Reception for The Piñata Exhibit (Sure to be a Smash Hit!)

    6 pm to 8 pm The Piñata Exhibit (Sure to be a Smash Hit!) celebrates this popular art form with over 175 examples from Mexico, California, Arizona, Nevada, Texas and New Mexico. Traditional and iconic works, alongside creations by contemporary piñata artists, illustrate how piñatas maintain their historical and social importance while also reflecting transnational shifts in popular, political, and visual culture.   • Festival Chispa Presents: Gaby Moreno & Las Cafeteras

    8 pm Festival Chispa, a celebration of New Latin music in partnership with Avokado Artists, presents Latin Grammy award-winning singer-songwriter Gaby Moreno and the incredible L.A.-based Latin alternative band Las Cafeteras. Born and raised in Guatemala, singer/songwriter Gaby Moreno was captivated in her youth by the sounds of the blues, soul, and jazz, and now calls Los Angeles home.   • Jugamos Juntos: Ciencia en la Cocina

    10:30 am to 12 pm The National Hispanic Cultural Center is pleased to offer free children’s programming during the summer. During June, July, and the first Saturday in August, families will be able to come to the Center on Saturday mornings for hands-on art activities, bilingual sing-alongs, outdoor activities in the Bosque and to explore the science of cooking on a rotating basis.   • ¡Baile! Rueda de Casino (Cuban Salsa) Dance Class

    6 pm – 7 pm Beginning and Intermediate - This class is geared for teenagers and adults. Come learn footwork, partner skills and choreography. No experience necessary. 7 pm – 8 pm Intermediate and Advanced - In order to participate in this class, dancers must know how to keep time, closed position calls, dame, enchufla, and outside turn.   • Summer Institute Performances: The Manoa Project

    Thursday—8 pm Friday—8 pm The NHCC’s Summer Institutes—Circo Latino, the Manoa Project, and Voces—join the Manoa Project Teen Ensemble for a stirring performance of a fully produced original show written and created by a group of theatre students who have trained and worked together over four weeks. The performance, inspired by themes of community, agriculture, farming, and our relationship with nature, will be based on the NHCC Art Museum’s exhibit Outstanding in His Field: San Ysidro—Patron Saint of Farmers. $10 w/ $2 discount for students
