  • Call for Involvement: Our Truth Project

    The National Hispanic Cultural Center is taking on a project, supported by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, with the goal of giving value and meaning to the lived stories of our New Mexico community; bringing heightened awareness of racial divides and inequalities; and helping navigate ways to heal and move forward together through art. Our overarching plan is to facilitate community dialogues and then commission artists to share these stories through devised works, presented in meaningful and discussion-inducing ways.   • Jugamos Juntos: ¡Vamos al Museo!

    10:30 am to 12 pm The National Hispanic Cultural Center is pleased to offer free children’s programming during the summer. During June, July, and the first Saturday in August, families will be able to come to the Center on Saturday mornings for hands-on art activities, bilingual sing-alongs, outdoor activities in the Bosque and to explore the science of cooking on a rotating basis.   • Seeing Double: Paired Perspective Museum Tours

    2 pm Join us on Saturday, July 1 at 2 pm for a special tour of the NHCC Art Museum’s exhibition, Outstanding in His Field: San Ysidro—Patron Saint of Farmers. Led by two different specialists with two distinct perspectives, it’s sure to have you seeing the artwork in new ways! The tour will be led by artist Arturo Olivas and Master Gardener Chris Fenner, who will discuss San Ysidro and the exhibit as a whole from an artistic and an agricultural perspective.   • Domingos en Arte: Los Texmaniacs & Mariachi Flor de Toloache

    7 pm (doors open at 6:30 pm) Grammy-winning Los TexManiacs, a conjunto band created by Albuquerque’s Max Baca in 1997, is joined by Grammy-nominated Mariachi Flor de Toloache, from New York. Los TexManiacs incorporates elements from genres including rock & roll and jazz, while still honoring the roots of Tejano conjunto; their album Borders y Bailes won the 2010 Grammy Award for Tejano Album of the Year.   • Film: The Sea Inside/Mar Adentro

    7 pm The Sea Inside is based on the life story of Ramón Sampedro, a Spanish ship mechanic and part-time poet who was left quadriplegic and bedridden at the age of 26 following a diving accident. Sampedro fought a 30-year campaign for the legal right to end his life with dignity; despite his wish to die, he was able to inspire those who were close to him to live life to the fullest.   • First Friday: Docent Education and Conversation

    9:30 am - 12 pm On the first Friday of each month, NHCC docents and core volunteers meet for coffee and conversation along with monthly presentations on topics that build the knowledge and skills of the docent core to give tours, educate the NHCC visitors and share the NHCC mission and programs.
