  • El Voto Femenino: Sufragistas Latinas luchando por el derecho al voto

    History and Literary Arts Building

    The National Hispanic Cultural Center’s History and Literary Arts Program presents a new exhibit, “El voto femenino: Sufragistas Latinas luchando por el derecho al voto/The Women’s Vote: Latina Suffragists who Fought for the Right to Vote” which opens on Friday, January 24, 2020, and runs through June 30, 2020. There will be a free opening reception on Friday, January 24, 2020, from 6-8 pm in the historic History and Literary Arts (HLA) Building on the NHCC campus, where the exhibit is on display.   • Mundos de Mestizaje

    12 pm to 5 pm A Vision of History through Fresco… Mundos de Mestizaje by Frederico Vigil is a mural housed in the Torreón on the campus of the National Hispanic Cultural Center. This monumental fresco depicts thousands of years of Hispanic history highlighting diverse cultural connections between people and places from the Iberian Peninsula to the Americas. The 4,000 square foot painting is one of the largest frescos in North America. The digitized imagery of the painting ensures that this culturally significant work can be a (more...)

  • NHCC Library: Saturday Hours

    The NHCC Library holds over 13,700 titles, with a concentration on the history and culture of the Hispanic/Latino world, as well over 700 children's books, many of which are bilingual. The NHCC Library also houses the Manuel y Lorenzita Lujan Genealogy Center, containing, among other items, the Archives of the Archdiocese of Santa Fe. The library also provides access to Ancestry Library Edition and HeritageQuest. The NHCC Library is open: Tuesdays - Fridays from 10am-5pm AND the first Saturday of each month from 1pm-5pm.   • NHCC & Opera Southwest Present Daniel Catan’s Il Postino

    February 2, 7 & 9, 2020 2 pm—Sundays 7:30 pm—Friday Opera Southwest presents Daniel Catán’s Il Postino, a fully staged opera with orchestra, sung in Spanish with both Spanish and English translation supertitles, and presented in two acts with one intermission. Presented in partnership with the National Hispanic Cultural Center, Il Postino is based on the novel Ardiente Paciencia by Antonio Skármeta, as well as the film by Michael Radford. No experience is necessary to participate in this class. 7:15 pm to 8:15 pm—Advanced Class In order to participate in this class, dancers must come to at least one 6 pm class and be familiar with the vocabulary and movement introduced in these classes.   • La Canoa – Past, Present, and Future: Mujeres Valerosas and the Hispanic Women’s Council

    2 pm - 4 pm The Hispanic Women’s Council (HWC) was formed in Albuquerque in 1988 to “promote, support, and create opportunities for Hispanic Women.” Local women came together to help each other  advance in their professions, increase the number of women participating in policy-making, and serve as role models for other women.
