    7:30 pm Singer-songwriter Rhiannon Giddens is the co-founder of the Grammy award-winning string band Carolina Chocolate Drops, in which she also plays banjo and fiddle. She began gaining recognition as a solo artist when she stole the show at the T Bone Burnett–produced Another Day, Another Time concert at New York City’s Town Hall in 2013. The elegant bearing, prodigious voice, and fierce spirit that brought the audience to its feet that night is also abundantly evident on Giddens’ critically acclaimed solo debut, the Grammy-nominated album Tomorrow (more...)

    7 pm Cinco de Mayo: La batalla is the story of the 1862 Battle of Puebla, the most important battle in Mexican history. Defending the city of Puebla, the army of General Ignacio Zaragoza, numbering around 2,000 men, won an unlikely victory against a supposedly unbeatable French army of over 6,000—at that time the world’s largest and most powerful army.   • Aliento: Dzul Dance Company

    7:30 pm Dzul Dance fuses dance with aerial arts, contortion, and acrobatics to communicate indigenous pre-Hispanic, Mexican and Latin culture and create bridges between contemporary art and historical heritage. Artistic director Javier Dzul grew up in the jungles of southern Mexico performing Mayan ritual dance until the age of 16; he has since performed with Ballet Nacional de México, Ballet Folklórico de México, the Martha Graham Dance Company, Alvin Ailey Repertory Ensemble, and American Indian Dance Theater.   • ¡Vamos al Museo!

    10:30 am to 12:00 pm The National Hispanic Cultural Center is pleased to offer children’s programming on the first Saturday morning of every month. This is a fun and engaging artist-led family program.  Families (limited to 25 participants) get a 30-minute museum tour focused on an art form, source inspiration, artist or type of material.  Following the tour, the whole family can create their own artwork in the Pete V.   • San Ysidro Feast Day Celebration
