  • A Night of Fiction

    6 pm Join us to hear new fiction created by writers finishing our 8 week workshop. In 2018, the NHCC launched a series of community writing workshops that run throughout the year. Each culminates with a public reading by those who have spent two months reading, writing, and revising. Come and support our growing cohort of NHCC writers! Featuring: Carmen Felan, Brenna Gomez (Instructor), Eric Guerrero, Sara Hogland-Gurule, Ka Long, Elizabeth MacMahon-Herrera and Steven Morrow. This event is free and open to the public

    5:30 pm to 7:30 pm On the first Thursday of the month, NHCC invites adults for artistic fun in a relaxed social setting, which includes snacks, refreshments, and beer & wine for sale from Pop Fizz. This is a great opportunity for friends to hang out, a unique date night option, or a place to come solo and connect with fellow art enthusiasts.   • Public Academy for Performing Arts Presents PAPA Spring Dance Concert 2019: 5 6 7 8 (Rental)

    7 pm both days The Public Academy for Performing Arts (PAPA) presents 5 6 7 8, its annual spring dance concert featuring beginning to pre-professional ballet, contemporary, flamenco, hip-hop, and jazz dance students from grades 6-12.   • Qué Chola! Opening Reception

    6-9 pm Join us for the free public reception to celebrate the opening of Qué Chola! The exhibition will be on view March 8, 2019 - August 4, 2019. This exhibition features cholas and homegirls in art and pop culture and celebrates them as symbols of strength, power, and resilience in the face of racial, gender, and economic adversity. The Qué Chola Photo Board will be displayed in the exhibition and is an opportunity to honor the Cholas in our lives, past and present, by sharing photos of (more...)

    6 pm Natyakalanjali Academy of Dance and Music presents Kala Anjali, an evening of East Indian dance, music, and martial arts. Nataykalanjali believes strongly in using the arts and deep-rooted culture of India for the betterment of today’s world. All profits from the show will be donated to the victims of the Kerala floods in Southern India, who have lost their homes in these floods.   • Barelas Stories: Four Workshops

    10:30 am to 12:30 pm Residents of Barelas are invited to a series of workshops that will result in a trilogy of plays about the neighborhood.   • Mundos de Mestizaje

    12 pm to 5 pm A Vision of History through Fresco… Mundos de Mestizaje by Frederico Vigil is a mural housed in the Torreón on the campus of the National Hispanic Cultural Center. This monumental fresco depicts thousands of years of Hispanic history highlighting diverse cultural connections between people and places from the Iberian Peninsula to the Americas. The 4,000 square foot painting is one of the largest frescos in North America. The digitized imagery of the painting ensures that this culturally significant work can be a (more...)

  • ¡Baile! Rueda de Casino (Cuban Salsa) Dance Class

    6 pm to 7 pm Beginning and Intermediate – This class is geared for teenagers and adults. Come learn footwork, partner skills and choreography. No experience necessary. 7 pm to 8 pm Intermediate and Advanced – In order to participate in this class, dancers must know how to keep time, closed position calls, dame, enchufla, and outside turn.
