    5:30 to 7:30 pm | NHCC Art Museum La Ultima Exhibición, curated by Augustine Romero, features visual interpretations of Rudolfo Anaya's celebrated book, Bless Me, Ultima (1972)-a portrait of life in rural New Mexico as seen through the eyes of a young boy during World War II. Anaya tells of the spiritual healer, Ultima, as she guides young Antonio on a magical and moral journey in this novel that has inspired artists for decades.     2pm Please join Alex E. Chávez, Assistant Professor of Anthropology and faculty fellow of the Institute for Latino Studies at the University of Notre Dame for a La Canoa Lecture. He works in the areas of linguistic and cultural anthropology, Latina/o Studies, and ethnomusicology. Alex E. Chávez, is an ethnographer-composer-academic-musician whose talk will address how huapango arribeño music voices desires of recognition and connection among Mexican migrants.   • Mundos de Mestizaje

    12 pm to 5 pm A Vision of History through Fresco… Mundos de Mestizaje by Frederico Vigil is a mural housed in the Torreón on the campus of the National Hispanic Cultural Center. This monumental fresco depicts thousands of years of Hispanic history highlighting diverse cultural connections between people and places from the Iberian Peninsula to the Americas. The 4,000 square foot painting is one of the largest frescos in North America. The digitized imagery of the painting ensures that this culturally significant work can be a (more...)

    6 pm to 7 pm Beginning and Intermediate - This class is geared for teenagers and adults. Come learn footwork, partner skills and choreography. No experience necessary. 7 pm to 8 pm Intermediate and Advanced - In order to participate in this class, dancers must know how to keep time, closed position calls, dame, enchufla, and outside turn.   • Film: Nasario Remembers the Río Puerco

    7 pm A new documentary follows celebrated folklorist Nasario García doing what he loves: wandering through landscape and memory amid the ghost towns of New Mexico's Río Puerco valley, reviving recuerdos (memories) of his youth when the ranching villages thrived and viejitos (elders) told stories beside a river that once ran. Through interviews with Dr. García, oral histories, archival photos, and footage of the landscape, Nasario Remembers the Río Puerco poses the question: do ruins remember us?
