5:30 pm Renowned ballerina Alisha Brach, a New Mexico native currently with the Royal Danish Ballet will be joined by professional dancer Da’von Doane of the Dance Theater of Harlem, New York, for an evening of choreographed works featuring solo, pas de deux and ensemble pieces. Ms. Brach and Mr. Doane will be joined by members of local ballet companies for the program finale. Pre-performance reception and “Meet the Artists” post performance reception. The fourth in our People-Powered (New Mexicans in Social Movements) Series features Henry Jake Foreman.  Henry Foreman uses traditional, Indigenous models of knowledge production along with contemporary practices.  He is the founder of the Karuna Colectiva that mentors youth in Albuquerque.  Indigenous methodologies and epistemologies guide his philosophical and research approaches to working with youth and communities to promote the health of our biosphere. 6 pm to 7 pm Beginning and Intermediate - This class is geared for teenagers and adults. Come learn footwork, partner skills and choreography. No experience necessary. 7 pm to 8 pm Intermediate and Advanced - In order to participate in this class, dancers must know how to keep time, closed position calls, dame, enchufla, and outside turn. SHORT MYSTERY FICTION WORKSHOP (for beginning mystery writers). Do you love reading a good mystery? Have you always wanted to write one? This eight-week fiction workshop is designed for writers who want to jump into the field of mystery fiction.  Inspired by The Hit List, an anthology of short mystery fiction by Latino/writers, you will start a new mystery story from scratch and receive valuable feedback for revision from your fellow writers. Once a month, community members gather for cooking demonstrations using fresh, locally grown ingredients, as well as fun art activities for kids and adults, health screenings, and live entertainment. Mundos de Mestizaje

12 pm to 5 pm A Vision of History through Fresco… Mundos de Mestizaje by Frederico Vigil is a mural housed in the Torreón on the campus of the National Hispanic Cultural Center. This monumental fresco depicts thousands of years of Hispanic history highlighting diverse cultural connections between people and places from the Iberian Peninsula to the Americas. Domingos en Arte: Baracutanga

7:30 pm Baracutanga is a seven-piece band representing four different countries (Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru, USA) that prides itself on arranging traditional South American rhythms in new and interesting ways, such as huayño and cumbia with Middle-Eastern darbuka or mixing Afro-Cuban bata and Afro-Peruvian festejo with Andean zampoñas, among several other rhythmic combinations.
