  • Mundos de Mestizaje

    12 pm to 5 pm A Vision of History through Fresco… Mundos de Mestizaje by Frederico Vigil is a mural housed in the Torreón on the campus of the National Hispanic Cultural Center. This monumental fresco depicts thousands of years of Hispanic history highlighting diverse cultural connections between people and places from the Iberian Peninsula to the Americas.     2 pm Lox and bagels meet salsa and congos in Peabody Award winner Lex Gillespie’s joyous and singular celebration of the Jewish love affair with Latin music and dance, set in New York, Havana, Miami Beach, and the Catskill Mountains. During the 1950s, free-spirited, mostly Jewish dancers from New York City fell head over heels for the mambo, the hot dance from Cuba that became a worldwide sensation.   • Breathe, Barelas, Breathe: A Reading of Excerpts from a Trilogy of One-Act Plays

    6 pm Sunday, July 28, 6 pm at B. Ruppe Drugstore parking lot 807 4th St SW, Albuquerque, NM 87102 Free food and drink followed by a reading of excerpts from the trilogy. This trilogy of one-act plays is written by Barelas resident playwrights Raúl Garza, Leonard Madrid and Mónica Sánchez, and inspired by the history, dreams and musings of one of Albuquerque's oldest neighborhoods.
