  • Summer Institute Performances: The Manoa Project

    8 pm both days The NHCC’s Summer Institutes—Circo Latino, the Manoa Project, and Voces—join the Manoa Project Teen Ensemble for a stirring performance of a fully produced original show written and created by a group of theatre students who have trained and worked together over four weeks. $10 w/ $2 discount for students Deep gratitude to our sponsors who make the program possible: Nusenda Credit Union, City of Albuquerque Urban Enhancement Fund, Department of Cultural Affairs, and the National Hispanic Cultural Center Foundation.

  • Mundos de Mestizaje

    12 pm to 5 pm A Vision of History through Fresco… Mundos de Mestizaje by Frederico Vigil is a mural housed in the Torreón on the campus of the National Hispanic Cultural Center. This monumental fresco depicts thousands of years of Hispanic history highlighting diverse cultural connections between people and places from the Iberian Peninsula to the Americas.   • Domingos en Arte: La Chamba

    7:30 pm With roots in East and South Central Los Angeles, La Chamba is driven by electric guitar that fuses ‘60’s psychedelic-inspired surf-pop from Peru with Afro-Latin rhythms. “Chamba,” literally meaning “work,” is a word used throughout the barrios of Latin America to describe one’s hustle. The band’s sound pays homage to the melodies and grooves of Peruvian Chicha music popular among the working classes of Lima and the Amazon.   • ¡Baile!: Family and Friends & Rueda de Casino (Cuban Salsa) Dance Classes

    5 pm to 6 pm Family and Friends Dance Class - On Tuesday nights in June and July, the National Hispanic Cultural Center is offering Latin American and Hispanic dance classes at 5 pm for families and friends. These classes will foster an intergenerational learning atmosphere. Bring your kids! Bring your grandparents! Bring your neighbors! Learning about the history and culture of the dances will be included. Some dances that may be taught include salsa, bachata, merengue, Mexican ballet folklorico, chachacha, casino, and more.   • Jugamos Juntos: ¡Vamos al Museo! With Carol Sanchez

    10:30 am to 12 pm The National Hispanic Cultural Center is pleased to offer free children’s programming during the summer. During June, July, and the first two Saturdays in August, families will be able to come to the Center on Saturday mornings for a new activity every week.     2 pm  Join us for a performance in Because It’s Time: Unraveling Race and Place in NM with Fatemeh Baigmoradi! Fatemeh was born in 1984 in Kerman, Iran and now lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico.   • Domingos en Arte: Calixto Oviedo y Son Sabroso

    7:30 pm Calixto Oviedo is a living encyclopedia of Cuban drumming and percussion, ranging from the deepest roots of African-influenced folklore to the hottest dance music and the cutting edge of jazz.
