Film: The Caborca Jew, A Mexican Story
NHCC-BOD-January-2020-Meeting8 pm A documentary inspired by the narrator’s grandfather, this film tells the real-life story of a Polish immigrant trying to get to the United States to escape both war and poverty, but inadvertently finding himself in Caborca, a small town in Sonora, Mexico. It is a moving and uplifting account of an individual’s strength and commitment to maintain his faith in the face of extraordinary obstacles, including the fact that he is the only Jew in a Catholic community and is unable to speak the language. Disney Center for Performing Arts: Albuquerque Journal Theatre 1701 4th St SW, Albuquerque, NM7:30 pm Puerto Rican ensemble Trío Los Andinos, together with Mariachi Nuevo Sonido and pianist and violinist Mariano Morales, performs some of the most beloved compositions by Latin American composers. Much of Latin America’s romantic music has been written for, and traditionally performed by, trios, and the concert is designed to continue and preserve this tradition, as well as uniting the Americas through music. NHCC Torreón 1701 4th street SW, Albuquerque, NM, United States12 pm to 5 pm A Vision of History through Fresco… Mundos de Mestizaje by Frederico Vigil is a mural housed in the Torreón on the campus of the National Hispanic Cultural Center. This monumental fresco depicts thousands of years of Hispanic history highlighting diverse cultural connections between people and places from the Iberian Peninsula to the Americas.
