    February 2, 7 & 9, 2020 2 pm—Sundays 7:30 pm—Friday Opera Southwest presents Daniel Catán’s Il Postino, a fully staged opera with orchestra, sung in Spanish with both Spanish and English translation supertitles, and presented in two acts with one intermission. Presented in partnership with the National Hispanic Cultural Center, Il Postino is based on the novel Ardiente Paciencia by Antonio Skármeta, as well as the film by Michael Radford. No experience is necessary to participate in this class. 7:15 pm to 8:15 pm—Advanced Class In order to participate in this class, dancers must come to at least one 6 pm class and be familiar with the vocabulary and movement introduced in these classes.     6- 8 pm (new time!) This year, in the spirit of the NHCC’s 20th Anniversary, we have invited back some of the artists that have contributed to the success of Happy Arte Hour over the years. Many of these artists were part of past exhibitions or have pieces of art in our permanent collection.   • La Canoa – Past, Present, and Future: Mujeres Valerosas and the Hispanic Women’s Council

    2 pm - 4 pm The Hispanic Women’s Council (HWC) was formed in Albuquerque in 1988 to “promote, support, and create opportunities for Hispanic Women.” Local women came together to help each other  advance in their professions, increase the number of women participating in policy-making, and serve as role models for other women.   • Mundos de Mestizaje

    12 pm to 5 pm A Vision of History through Fresco… Mundos de Mestizaje by Frederico Vigil is a mural housed in the Torreón on the campus of the National Hispanic Cultural Center. This monumental fresco depicts thousands of years of Hispanic history highlighting diverse cultural connections between people and places from the Iberian Peninsula to the Americas. The 4,000 square foot painting is one of the largest frescos in North America. The digitized imagery of the painting ensures that this culturally significant work can be a (more...)
