  • First Friday: Volunteer Education and Conversation

    9:00 am – 11 am On the first Friday of each month, NHCC docents and core volunteers meet for coffee and conversation along with monthly presentations on topics that build the knowledge and skills of the docent core to give tours, educate the NHCC visitors and share the NHCC mission and programs.   • Call for Art and Writing: “Lost Places”

    History and Literary Arts Building

    Submission deadline:  10/5/18  For Día de los Muertos 2018, the NHCC will present a special ofrenda remembering lost, beloved places. Local artists are invited to create art (memorials, tributes, offerings) with accompanying writing/poetry that honors a place whose absence they mourn--whether a lost region of the Amazon, Chaco Canyon, or your abuela's kitchen. Any medium is welcome and pieces should be no larger than eight inches square. Finished work with text/poetry must be submitted by September 29.   • Mundos de Mestizaje

    12 pm to 5 pm A Vision of History through Fresco… Mundos de Mestizaje by Frederico Vigil is a mural housed in the Torreón on the campus of the National Hispanic Cultural Center. This monumental fresco depicts thousands of years of Hispanic history highlighting diverse cultural connections between people and places from the Iberian Peninsula to the Americas. The 4,000 square foot painting is one of the largest frescos in North America. The digitized imagery of the painting ensures that this culturally significant work can be a (more...)

  • Ballet Folklórico de Mexico de Amalia Hernández

    7:30 pm Ballet Folklórico de México was formed in 1952 by the dancer and choreographer Amalia Hernández. For six decades it has presented dances that reflect the traditional culture of Mexico, including indigenous Mesoamerica. The ensemble performs three times weekly at the Palace of Fine Arts in Mexico City. Additionally, it has toured widely and has appeared in over 80 countries, including a private performance at the White House for President and Mrs. Kennedy and command performances at the feet of the Sphinx in Egypt, bringing the (more...)

    7:15 pm Super fun Latin hip-hop and body isolation dance class with Carlota Silva! No experience necessary and all ages welcome. Carlota began dancing at the age of 2. She currently teaches jazz, hip-hop, tap, and contemporary dance at Fishback studio of dance. She coached the Viking Vikettes and is the director and choreographer for local dance company Off Broadway. She is excited to share her love of dance with our community! $5 to $10 donation suggested.
