  • First Friday: Docent Education and Conversation

    9:30 am – 12 pm On the first Friday of each month, NHCC docents and core volunteers meet for coffee and conversation along with monthly presentations on topics that build the knowledge and skills of the docent core to give tours, educate the NHCC visitors and share the NHCC mission and programs.   • ¡Vamos al Museo!

    10:30 am to 12 pm A great morning of art-making for children of all ages and families of all sizes.   A visit to the museum is included in this artist led workshop, on the first Saturday of every month.   • Pimentel Concert Series: Los Tres Reyes

    7 pm Los Tres Reyes, founded in 1957 by classically trained guitarists and twin brothers Gilberto and Raul Puente, also includes lead vocalist Bebo Cárdenas. Los Tres Reyes are noted for their contributions to the development of the romantic music genre in Mexico during the 1950s and 1960s, as well as for their guitar virtuosity. Sánchez, Angélica Sánchez-Clark, and Steve Mandrgoc for a presentation of their book Historic Route 66: A New Mexican Crossroads, narrating the history of how New Mexico’s portion of Highway 66 came to be and the people who used it as a lifeline for medical purposes, food, commerce, and the transport of livestock, which together shaped the significance of Historic Route 66 to our national heritage.   • Mundos de Mestizaje

    12 pm to 5 pm A Vision of History through Fresco… Mundos de Mestizaje by Frederico Vigil is a mural housed in the Torreón on the campus of the National Hispanic Cultural Center. This monumental fresco depicts thousands of years of Hispanic history highlighting diverse cultural connections between people and places from the Iberian Peninsula to the Americas. The name Abrepaso comes from the Spanish phrase “abrir paso,” which can signify making or paving the way and breaking open space. The company aims to establish a contemporary approach to flamenco in the United States, breaking down boundaries and stereotypes through professional, quality performances and education.     6 pm to 7 pm Beginning and Intermediate - This class is geared for teenagers and adults. Come learn footwork, partner skills and choreography. No experience necessary. 7 pm to 8 pm Intermediate and Advanced - In order to participate in this class, dancers must know how to keep time, closed position calls, dame, enchufla, and outside turn.     7 pm Born in Costa Rica to pious parents who were embarrassed by their boyish daughter, Isabel Vargas Lizano ran away to Mexico City to sing on the streets. At the peak of her initial popularity in the 1950s, dressed in a poncho, she interpreted the mournful, yearning repertoire of canción ranchera without altering the female pronouns.
