• NHCC Summer Reading Program Applications Due April 5

    In 2019, the National Hispanic Cultural Center will launch its first summer reading program for students in grades 3 and 4 who need help with reading. This program is part of the Bilingual Children's Book Festival Students will read with trained tutors on a weekly basis in the NHCC library during the summer months, June-August, 2019. The NHCC library includes a collection of bilingual children’s books (Spanish and English) as well as age-appropriate books in English that are focused on Hispanic/Latino culture.     10:30 am to 12 pm A great morning of art-making for children of all ages and families of all sizes. A visit to the museum is included in this artist-led workshop.   • Art Making: Try this at home!

    In April 2019, we made lemonade out of lemons in the Art Museum. Not real lemonade, because food and drink aren’t allowed in the Museum! We were expecting construction, and to keep the art safe, it had to be put in storage. We took the families participating in our Saturday program, Vamos al Museo into the Museum to look at blank walls.   • Mundos de Mestizaje

    12 pm to 5 pm A Vision of History through Fresco… Mundos de Mestizaje by Frederico Vigil is a mural housed in the Torreón on the campus of the National Hispanic Cultural Center. This monumental fresco depicts thousands of years of Hispanic history highlighting diverse cultural connections between people and places from the Iberian Peninsula to the Americas.     6 pm to 7 pm Beginning and Intermediate – This class is geared for teenagers and adults. Come learn footwork, partner skills and choreography. No experience necessary. 7 pm to 8 pm Intermediate and Advanced – In order to participate in this class, dancers must know how to keep time, closed position calls, dame, enchufla, and outside turn.
