  • NHCC Book Club

    5:30 pm The NHCC Book Club meets once a month to talk about that month's selected book. In January, the book will be Pat Mora's House of Houses (memoir). Pat Mora also will be the keynote speaker/reader at the NHCC Children's Bilingual Book Festival on April 27, 2019. To join the NHCC Book Club, register here.   • Braceros Exhibit Opening Reception

    History and Literary Arts Building

    6 pm This exhibition features more than 30 black and white photographs of braceros taken by the photojournalist collective known as the Hermanos Mayo. It also uses narratives, video and artifacts to tell the story of the Bracero Program. The program grew out of a series of bi-lateral agreements between Mexico and the United States, bringing Mexican men to the United States as guest-workers on short-term, primarily agricultural labor contracts.   • Voces Summer Institute: Accepting Applications

    Voces is a FREE month-long summer writing institute for teens (ages 15-18) presented each summer by the National Hispanic Cultural Center. Teens spend 4 WEEKS IN JUNE writing, creating art, writing, learning from guest artists, writing,  sharing, writing, collaborating, writing, and reading/performing for peers and the public at two celebratory events. The program runs each weekend day in June from 9:30 am- 4 pm with a free lunch included.   • Mundos de Mestizaje

    12 pm to 5 pm A Vision of History through Fresco… Mundos de Mestizaje by Frederico Vigil is a mural housed in the Torreón on the campus of the National Hispanic Cultural Center. This monumental fresco depicts thousands of years of Hispanic history highlighting diverse cultural connections between people and places from the Iberian Peninsula to the Americas.   • ¡Baile! Rueda de Casino (Cuban Salsa) Dance Class

    6 pm to 7 pm Beginning and Intermediate – This class is geared for teenagers and adults. Come learn footwork, partner skills and choreography. No experience necessary. 7 pm to 8 pm Intermediate and Advanced – In order to participate in this class, dancers must know how to keep time, closed position calls, dame, enchufla, and outside turn.
