These workshops will provide participating seniors with the opportunity to participate in interactive tours of the NHCC Art Museum and Torreón, paired with genealogy workshops and coffee socials. Latin Dance for Seniors
Salón Ortega 1701 4th Street SW, Albuquerque, NM1:30 – 3:30 pm NHCC | Salon Ortega Latin Dance for Seniors will feature 4 weeks of Latin dance lessons taught by instructor Carlota Silva. Classes run for four consecutive Wednesdays from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm. Latin Dance for Seniors is part of the NHCC’s Siempre Creativo program which provides a free multidisciplinary arts programs for seniors. Free Community Event, generously supported by AARP. Happy Arte Hour
Domenici Education Building 1701 4th Street SW, Albuquerque, NM6:00 pm NHCC invites adults 21+ for artistic fun in a relaxed social setting. This is a great opportunity for friends to hang out, a unique date night option, or a place to come solo and connect with fellow art enthusiasts. Drinks and snacks will be available to purchase. Please pre-register below (so we know how many materials to prepare). Registration for the following month is available the day after the current program month. Arte Para Chiquitos
Domenici Education Building 1701 4th Street SW, Albuquerque, NM10:00 – 10:45 am Arte para chiquitos is a free, monthly, 45-minute program for babies and toddlers ages 0 months to 4 years and their caregivers that cultivates creativity and self-expression through the exploration of Hispanic/Latine arts and culture. Participants explore the NHCC Museum, Performing Arts Center, and engage in artmaking, music, movement, dance, drama, and bilingual story time. NHCC instructors model age-appropriate arts techniques that celebrate self-expression, build vocabulary, and strengthen both fine-motor and gross-motor skills in a fun environment. Colcha Community Stitch A-Long
Domenici Education Building 1701 4th Street SW, Albuquerque, NM9:30 am in-person 10:30 am Zoom Our Colcha Community Stich-A-Long is open to all levels of experience in an informal setting. This workshop is instructed by Annette Gutierrez-Turk. Annette has taught colcha, a Spanish Colonial embroidery style, to groups internationally and at the NHCC for many years. She is also an award-winning artist, most recently recognized in 2019 at Traditional Spanish Market in Santa Fe. Annette will demonstrate as well as answer questions. Día de Familia: Día de los Muertos
Domenici Education Building 1701 4th Street SW, Albuquerque, NM11:00 am – 3:00 pm NHCC | Domenici Education Building Join us for a special day for the whole family commemorating Día de los Muertos traditions. Contribute to our community ofrenda and view ofrendas created by local schools and community organizations. Decorate sugar skulls, craft paper flowers, enjoy face-painting, and sample Pan de Muerte. Visitors can also enjoy food from local food trucks, and dance and music performances from Voces de Coronado and Ballet Folklórico de Dolores Gonzales. Re-Scheduled: Siempre Creativo: Intro to Retablos with Artist Sean Wells y Delgado
Salón Ortega 1701 4th Street SW, Albuquerque, NM1:30 – 3:30 pm Discover the history and symbolism of retablo painting and create your own unique interpretation, using watercolors on wood prepared with traditional gesso. This is the second of two sessions with artist Sean Wells y Delgado, and participants are welcomed to attend one or both sessions. These workshops are part of the NHCC’s Siempre Creativo program, which provides free multidisciplinary arts programs for seniors throughout the summer. Free Community Event, generously supported by Presbyterian Healthcare Services.
