Pre-Performance Talk: Yjastros: Xicano Power

National Institute of Flamenco & the NHCC present the Yjastros: The American Flamenco Repertory Company in Xicano Power. Xicano Power is the seasonal culmination of Yjastros’ progression and evolution. New Mexico Folk Dance Classes For Seniors

1:30 to 3:30 pm New Mexico Folk Dance for Seniors will feature four weeks of traditional New Mexican folk dance lessons, including the traditional La Marcha dance, taught by instructor Lucy Salazar. Classes run for four consecutive Wednesdays in October and November, from 1:30 to 3:30 pm. On the day of the final class, live music will be provided by La Rondalla for a fun-filled dance fiesta! Afro Mundo: Liz Olivia Fernandez

2:00 pm, Social Justice Film Screening, Discussion to immediately follow. We will show 30 minutes total of Uphill on the Hill and Hardliner on the Hudson. They are unreleased. Both docs are 30-40 minutes each but given an hour 20 minutes is generally too long for audiences; we'll show abridged and polished 15-minute segments of each. In Uphill on the Hill, award -winning Cuban journalist Liz Olivia Fernandez travels to Washington D.C., where she exposes the political interests driving the U.S. government’s Cold War-era policy toward Cuba. (more...)

Colcha Community Stitch A-long

9:30 am (MST) on the 4th Tuesday of each month Our Colcha community Workshop is open to all levels of experience in an informal setting. This workshop is instructed by Annette Gutierrez-Turk. Annette has taught this art form to groups internationally and at the NHCC for many years. She is also an award-winning artist, most recently recognized in 2019 at Santa Fe Spanish Market. Arte para chiquitos is a free, monthly, 45-minute program for babies and toddlers ages 0 months to 4 years and their caregivers that cultivates creativity and self-expression through the exploration of Hispanic/Latine arts and culture. Participants explore the NHCC Museum, Performing Arts Center, and engage in artmaking, music, movement, dance, drama, and bilingual story time. NHCC instructors model age-appropriate arts techniques that celebrate self-expression, build vocabulary, and strengthen both fine-motor and (more...)

Happy Arte Hour

6:00 pm to 8:00 pm NHCC invites adults for artistic fun in a relaxed social setting. This is a great opportunity for friends to hang out, a unique date night option, or a place to come solo and connect with fellow art enthusiasts. Drinks and snacks will be available to purchase.
