Breathe, Barelas, Breathe: A Staged Reading of a Trilogy of One-Act Plays
Orpheum Art Space7 pm Orpheum Arts Space 500 2nd St, SW, Albuquerque, NM 87102 This will be a staged reading of the entire trilogy (90 minutes). Arrive early to see a photo exhibit about Barelas. Followed by refreshments. This trilogy of one-act plays is written by Barelas resident playwrights Raúl Garza, Leonard Madrid and Mónica Sánchez, and inspired by the history, dreams and musings of one of Albuquerque's oldest neighborhoods. More than 60 exhibitors from 21 cities across the nation will be in New Mexico to sell and trade their zines, comics and small press publications. Book Presentation and Signing: Dr. Mari-Luci Jaramillo and her book “Sacred Seeds”
NHCC-Newsletter-August-26–September-72:00 pm A notable educator and civil rights advocate, Mari-Luci Jaramillo is best known for her accomplishments as U.S. Ambassador to Honduras in the 1970s. From humble beginnings in Las Vegas, New Mexico, Mari-Luci went on to a long career that included numerous positions at the University of New Mexico, and serving as the U.S. Department of State, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Inter-American Affairs under President Carter, and as the U.S. Department of Defense, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Latin America under President Clinton.
