Domenici Education Building 1701 4th Street SW, Albuquerque, NM5:30 pm - 7:30 pm On the first Thursday of the month, NHCC invites adults for artistic fun in a relaxed social setting, which includes snacks, refreshments, and beer & wine for sale from Pop Fizz. This is a great opportunity for friends to hang out, a unique date night option, or a place to come solo and connect with fellow art enthusiasts. First Friday: Docent Education and Conversation
Domenici Education Building 1701 4th Street SW, Albuquerque, NM9:30 am – noon On the first Friday of each month, NHCC docents and core volunteers meet for coffee and conversation along with monthly presentations on topics that build the knowledge and skills of the docent core to give tours, educate the NHCC visitors and share the NHCC mission and programs. ¡Vamos al Museo!
Domenici Education Building 1701 4th Street SW, Albuquerque, NM10:30 am - noon This is a fun and engaging docent and artist-led family program. Families (limited to 25 participants) get a 30-minute museum tour focused on an art form, source inspiration, artist or type of material. Following the tour, the whole family can create their own artwork in the Pete V. Domenici Education Building Messy Classroom. Hidden Chicano Cinema: Film Dramas in the Borderlands Talk, Screenings, and Book Signing
NHCC-BOD-January-2020-Meeting2 pm to 4 pm The National Hispanic Cultural Center presents an afternoon talk, screenings, and book signing of “Hidden Chicano Cinema: Film Dramas in the Borderlands.” by A. Gabriel Meléndez the Distinguished Professor of American Studies at the University of New Mexico. He has authored books on borderlands literature and film, serves on the board of the Recovering the U.S. Hispanic Literary Heritage Project and is a general editor for the Pasó por aquí Series at UNM Press. Salud y Sabor: Estados Unidos
Domenici Education Building 1701 4th Street SW, Albuquerque, NM5:30 pm to 7:30 pm Salud y Sabor, a partnership between the Agri-cultura Network, Street Food Institute, and the NHCC, is a free evening of food, art, and entertainment aimed at providing families with an opportunity to connect around nutrition, cooking, healthy lifestyles, and culture. Once a month, community members gather for cooking demonstrations using fresh, locally grown ingredients, as well as fun art activities for kids and adults, health screenings, and live entertainment. Jugamos Juntos: ¡Vamos al Museo!, Spanish Mosaics
Domenici Education Building 1701 4th Street SW, Albuquerque, NM10:30 am -- 12 pm The National Hispanic Cultural Center is pleased to offer children’s programming on Saturday mornings during June, July, and half of August, from 10:30 am to noon. Families can come to the Center for hands-on art activities, bilingual sing-alongs, outdoor activities in the bosque, and story times in the Center’s library. For Vamos al Museo on June 4th, in honor of the National Institute of Flamenco’s Festival Flamenco Internacional, we’ll work with tile mosaics in the Spanish tradition. La Canoa: Making Frederico Vigil’s Miracle Wall
History and Literary Arts Building2 pm Our La Canoa Legacy series features talks by Hispanic-Latino faculty and community researchers with long-standing and accomplished records of research and teaching about New Mexico and the region. The final talk of this season features Aracely Chapa, Director of the Center for Regional Studies, at UNM, talking about the process that resulted in Frederico Vigil's fresco "Mundos de Mestizaje" that graces the wall of the Torreon on the NHCC Campus.
