  • Chispa: Latin Diva Series, Las Migas

    7:30 pm Formed as a flamenco quartet in Barcelona in 2004, Las Migas now performs a repertoire of “Mediterranean music,” including lively Latin rhythms and pensive ballads. The members, Alba Carmona, Marta Robles, Alicia Grillo and Roser Loscos, come from four cities spanning both the geography of Spain and its cultural diversity—Barcelona, Sevilla, Córdova and Lérida.   • Salud y Sabor: Día de los Muertos: Mexico

    5:30 pm -- 7:30 pm Salud y Sabor, a partnership between the Agri-cultura Network, Street Food Institute, and the NHCC, is a free evening of food, art, and entertainment aimed at providing families with an opportunity to connect around nutrition, cooking, healthy lifestyles, and culture. Once a month, community members gather for cooking demonstrations using fresh, locally grown ingredients, as well as fun art activities for kids and adults, health screenings, and live entertainment.     7 pm Since pre-Hispanic times, death has played a fundamental role in Zapotec life. The traditional celebration of Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, in the Zapotec community of Teotitlán del Valle, Oaxaca, Mexico focuses on the importance of family and extended family relations. The celebration includes family-based observances and altars, and continues with a community-wide ritual remembrance in the cemetery. Presented in partnership with Metamorfosis Documentation Project, a non-profit organization documenting and supporting cross-cultural rituals and dances in the Americas through collaborative projects (more...)

    October 23, 26, 28 & 30, 2016 2 pm—Sundays 7:30 pm—Wednesday & Friday Rossini’s Tancredi is a fully-staged opera with orchestra, sung in Italian with English translation supertitles and presented in two acts with one intermission. This will be the New Mexico premiere of Rossini’s little-known masterwork. Set against the exotic backdrop of war, intrigue, and conquest in medieval Sicily, Tancredi follows the romance between the exiled soldier Tancredi and the beautiful Amenaide.
