Making Art: Earth Day: Recycled Art & Bosque Walk

10 am to 12 pm Students tour select sections of current museum exhibits, create artwork with re-cycled or “second life” materials, attend a tour of the Bosque, adjacent to the NHCC and have a discussion on connections between land, culture, art and sustainability. ¡Vamos al Museo!

10:30 am to 12:00 pm The National Hispanic Cultural Center is pleased to offer children’s programming on the first Saturday morning of every month. This is a fun and engaging artist-led family program.  Families (limited to 25 participants) get a 30-minute museum tour focused on an art form, source inspiration, artist or type of material.  Following the tour, the whole family can create their own artwork in the Pete V. First Friday: Docent Education and Conversation

The Book of Archives tells the story of New Mexico’s Mora Valley, located in the shadow of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, through the ghosts of history it harbors: troubadours and soldiers, Plains Indians and settlers, families fleeing and finding home. San Ysidro blesses the fields, brings rain and discourages drought, and assures a healthy growing season for local crops such as chile, beans, corn and squash. ¡Salud y Sabor!: Pueblos indígenas en América Latina

5:30 pm to 7:30 pm Salud y Sabor, a partnership between the Agri-cultura Network, Street Food Institute, and the NHCC, is a free evening of food, art, and entertainment aimed at providing families with an opportunity to connect around nutrition, cooking, healthy lifestyles, and culture. Once a month, community members gather for cooking demonstrations using fresh, locally grown ingredients, as well as fun art activities for kids and adults, health screenings, and live entertainment. ¡Baile! Casino del Rueda (Cuban Salsa) Dance Class

6 pm – 7 pm Beginning and Intermediate - This class is geared for teenagers and adults. Come learn footwork, partner skills and choreography. No experience necessary. 7 pm – 8 pm Intermediate and Advanced - In order to participate in this class, dancers must know how to keep time, closed position calls, dame, enchufla, and outside turn.
